When school doesn’t start

This is the last weekend before the start of a new school year for many. We think of supplies and clothing, groceries and schedules. But it is not that for everyone.

I’m speaking now of the families whose children will not start school this fall because they didn’t make it. Some succumbed to accidents or illness, physical or otherwise. But too many others were lost to what is now “killing Americans at an unprecedented rate”: Fentanyl.

I learned more about the issue after the loss of a friend’s amazing son – Tyler Joe Young – to an accidental overdose. And if you think it would be different for you because you would know if your kid were doing drugs, listen to this family’s story. It’s just as likely you would not know.

Tomorrow, Monday, August 21, 2023, is National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day. Take a few minutes to check out the DEA’s One Pill Can Kill Partner Toolkit. This year, it is the most important school supply anyone needs.
